Advertising Specifications

Creative Delivery Deadlines
Please ensure you supply creatives five (5) working days prior to the campaign's start date. Send all creatives to the Online Ad Trafficker: online@ffxbusinessgroup.co.nz

Online Creatives
Accepted creatives include: GIF, JPEG, PNG, SWF, HTML and third-party redirects (please supply JavaScript tags). All other types of rich media are subject to approval and require more time for testing.

Flash creatives:

  • If supplying a Flash creative you must also supply a backup GIF or JPEG to serve to users who do not have the Flash plug-in
  • Flash creatives must not use hard-coded URLs. A "clickTag" must be used instead (download the Ad Specifications PDF for instructions on inserting a clickTag into the SWF file)
  • Publish SWF file as version 8, 9 or 10 (max. version supported is 10.1). If using Flash CS5.5 note that the default SWF file version is Flash 10.2 which will not be accepted.
  • Use ActionScript 2.0 to create the clickTag. AS3 is not supported.
  • Flash ads must not exceed 18fps
  • CPU usage required by Flash file must be kept to a minimum. Flash files that consistently use an excessive amount of CPU may be rejected. See instructions in the Ad Specifications PDF for more information

Third-party redirect tags
  • Accepted third-party redirects include: Doubleclick DFA, Facilitate, Eyeblaster/MediaMind, Atlas, Mediaplex, Eyewonder. Other third-party redirects are subject to approval by Fairfax Media Business Group and may require additional lead time
  • Third-party redirects must be supplied as JavaScript-only tags
  • Please also supply any instructions for tracking clicks, cache-busting or serving impressions according to your ad server's recommendations
  • Any third-party costs are to be paid for by the advertiser unless agreed otherwise by Fairfax Media Business Group

MediaMind Creatives
  • All MediaMind/Eyeblaster ads should be loaded into our account under: Fairfax Business Media NZ

All creatives:
  • Rich media clickthroughs must be targeted to a new window ("_blank")
  • Click-through URL must be supplied (character limit: 254)
  • Any special instructions should be included

Newsletter Creatives
We only accept GIFs or JPEGs as creatives for our newsletters. Rich media is not compatible with all email programs and may be blocked by our subscribers' spam filters.
  • A newsletter sponsorship normally includes: a 300x250 Medium Rectangle plus a Text ad
  • Click-through URL must be supplied (character limit: 254)
  • 100-word text ad should be supplied for our newsletter subscribers who receive text-only newsletters and for HTML-only subscribers who have images turned off
  • The latest versions of Microsoft Outlook do not support animation - we recommend that either the call to action appear in the first frame or don't use an animated GIF
  • Any special instructions should be included

Wallpaper Creatives
The wallpaper works in conjunction with the Big Banner creative at the top of the page to wrap the advertising around the content of our sites. The wallpaper is not clickable, only the accompanying Big Banner is clickable. The wallpaper should be designed with the main artwork within a 1280w by 960h region, which is viewable by the majority of web visitors. Photoshop template can be downloaded here.

DeadlinesFBG requires that all creatives be supplied ten business days prior to launch date. If the submitted creative does not conform to these specifications, it will not be placed online and may result in a delayed launch date.

General Guidelines
  • All advertising must conform to Fairfax Business Media's Standard Terms and Conditions for Web Sites
  • Creatives must not contain strobing effects
  • Interactive advertisements must be user-initiated unless previously agreed with The Fairfax Business Media Online Network. Interactive ads cannot exceed the ad's pixel dimensions unless by prior agreement
  • Browser back button may not be disabled. Site visitors must be permitted to return to a Fairfax Business Media site via the browser back button
  • Advertisers should allow five (5) working days for Fairfax Business Media to change, add or update existing material
  • Advertisements cannot mislead the user. For example, Fairfax Business Media will not accept advertisements that look or act like Windows dialogue boxes or error messages
  • Advertisements cannot look like Fairfax Business Media content
  • Advertisements cannot contain pictures or images of minors or those who appear to be minors, or words describing individuals as such
  • Fairfax Business Media does not advertise tobacco products, gambling, and materials, products and services related to pornography
  • If a rich media ad is causing technical problems, the campaign will be suspended immediately until the problem can be resolved
